Snapchat is everywhere right now. I more often see the Snapchat camera open on people’s phones now than the regular phone camera. People are consuming and making snaps like never before, and Etsy sellers are in a perfect place to capitalize on this.
I run an Etsy shop called Sci Chic, as well as my own website, that makes science and engineering inspired jewelry using advanced technology like 3D printing aimed at spreading science literacy. Customers come to Etsy because they want handmade, cool products that they cant get anywhere else. People come to my store specifically because of the design of the pieces, the mission, and the cool process by which its made. Snapchat is the best way to show off these unique aspects of my products.
Photo showing one of our works in progress from SnapchatSnapchat allows Etsy sellers to show the intricacies behind their items, the process they use to make them and how much work goes into each item. Buyers will get attached to you and your product and be truly engaged with you during your making process.
Think of Snapchat as allowing you to make your own “How Its Made” episode combined with a vlog. You can teach customers small aspects of how they can make their own pieces at home, as well as show off your creativity in the photo and video production. The addition of drawing, filters and emojis on photos and video is a unique way to interact with your customers. You can even snap back and forth directly with the following you to create personal relationships.
I have also been able to capitalize on getting instant feedback from customers as I develop new products, as well as educate them about 3D printing. Since so much of my mission is teaching about science and technology, I have been able to create lots of content around this that keeps people coming back and staying up to date with both new and current products I am making. There is a trust creates with the customer when they can see the items go from start to finish and the care and quality with which they are made. This has allowed for fantastic customer engagement as I show the complete 3D printing process from start to finish of my jewelry, or even the computer designing.
Every Etsy seller has their own unique story, personality and process, and Snapchat allows this to shine through better than any other social platform out there right now.
So go out there, get your account, and start showing off all the awesome things you make!
